Have Your Utilities Disconnected

You know that you are moving well ahead of move day itself. That means that you have plenty of time to notify your utilities companies that you will no longer be needing their services after the date.

If possible it’s best not to wait until the last minute and have all of your utilities disconnected on moving day. Not only will you have to wait in the middle of the busiest days of your life for your internet and cable company to come out, you may not even be able to get everything resolved in time.

Pack Your Clothes First

One of the biggest tasks you will have to deal with when moving is certainly packing. If you don’t know where to start, here’s a good recommendation – start with out-of-season clothes.

This way, you can clear a particularly large amount of work that needs to be done weeks ahead of the move.

Get Rid of The Junk You Don’t Need Anymore

If there is anything that you haven’t touched in the last six months, or at least a year – chances are that you no longer need it. Perhaps your moving day is the day when you could consider getting rid of those things. Whether we’re talking about your children’s toys or some more important items, there are plenty of organizations that take donations.

One of the biggest items that gets donated during packing for moving da are clothes. If there are any clothes that you haven’t worn for over a year now is the time to get rid of those too. You will find that giving things away can be just as rewarding as owning them.

Call Your Movers

If you’re hiring movers it’s best not to wait until the last minute because then they might be booked. Organizing the move is not as simple as you may think, and many of the best moving companies will be busy if you wait until the last moment.

Make sure you book movers at least two weeks ahead of the move. In most cases, even a month ahead of time would be better, especially if it is high moving season, and the weather is expected to be nice.

Visualize the Moving Truck

It may seem like a good idea to pack everything in one room but that won’t work out very well if you have stairs or narrow hallways so instead just start organizing what you want in the truck and making a plan for how much room each item will take up.

Enjoy The Last Few Days At Your Old House, Prepare for the New Home

Don’t start worrying about organizing your new place until the day before move in because it’s important that on moving day you are relaxed so enjoy these last few days at your old house and in your old neighborhood.

If you’re moving because you want to live somewhere else then find some new places for food, fun, and entertainment before you move so that when it comes time to adjust to a new place everything will be easier on everyone involved.
