traditional mexican chairs

When my grandparents first built the family cabin over 50 years ago, they took a trip to Mexico where they picked up a few items including tin masks, wall hangings, tables and chairs. I have always been a fan of the original decor because I am certain that no one else has a ski cabin with traditional Mexican furniture and art like we do! I stumbled across this picture with the same chairs we have, who knew that my grandparents were so trendy!

happy father's day

After a long week at work, why not treat your father to a wine and cheese party on the deck. You have all summer to barbeque. Surprise your Dad with the unexpected.

When entertaining think about what you are serving and what you are serving it on. Less can be more so what ever you do, make it special for dad. A light and easy appetizer can be cheese and crackers. Get a fresh French stick from a local bakery and his favorite cheese. When serving cheese, it is recommended to leave it out a few hours before serving so the cheese is ripe.  Serve with a splash of colour, a glass of wine and a smile on your face.

One day I will go to the desert and ride on a camel! They are such unique looking animals that stand tall and proud amongst the sand. Decorating with camel prints or sculptures really gives a space a subtle middle eastern feel.

blueberry crisp

Ricky Lauren has spent countless summers in The Hamptons and has now written a book with a taste of her favourite delicious recipes. Below is her scrumptious Blueberry Crisp which was featured in this month's Lonny Mag.

For the Base:

3  cups fresh blueberries

2 tablespoons of sugar

Juice and zest of 1 lemon

For the crisp topping:

3/4 cup of all-purpose flour

1 cup packed light brown sugar

1 1/2 cups rolled oats

6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) salted butter softened 

Preheat oven to 375°F

Bake until golden on top, 40 to 45 minutes

peony season

It's peony season as the buds are starting to come up in the garden. There is nothing quite like a peony - each one is so individual and capture your heart. When you find them in the garden it's like seeing them for the first time every time. They take you're breath away. Peonies are adorable cut down in a short vase or carefully placed on top of a three teared cake.

There is something about sleeping on the ground in a sleeping bag that doesn't quit tickle my fancy. I have been on my fair share of camping trips over the years and I have to say that a blow up mattress seems to be doing the trick! On our next family camping trip, I am going to strongly suggest us renting an urban camping trailer.
